Pet Portrait: Bristol the Boxer

Bristol the Boxer (Colored Pencil - 2013)

Meet Bristol, the beautiful boxer of a great dog loving family I've known for a while now.  I don't think I ever actually met her, but her face makes her seem like she can't be anything other than the sweetest dog ever.

Paper Used: Strathmore Premium Recycled Drawing Paper (400 Series) cut to 8x10".

Prismacolor Colored Pencils Used:

Black - PC935
90% Cool Grey - PC1067
70% Cool Grey - PC1065
50% Cool Grey - PC1063
30% Cool Grey - PC1061
White - PC938
Dark Umber - PC947
Sienna Brown - PC945
Cream - PC914

Time Spent: 16 hours and 53 minutes.

Blending:  To get the brown fur colors I actually worked from dark to light, putting the Sienna Brown down first, applying the cream pencil on top of that to create the lighter fur texture.  In some places I didn't put a thick layer down, and though it turned out fine as I built cream and white on top of it, I think next time I might start with a white base first and build up darker layers on top of that.

Up Next:  Next I am working on a German Shepard police dog from up in the Boston area.  I am very excited for this one!  I'll let you know more about it in that post, so be sure to come back!
