Pet Portrait: Charley the Havanese

Meet Charley, a Havanese with an obvious knack for posing for the camera; the goodest of good boys and sibling to Lucy, who you may remember from another portrait of mine drawn a couple years ago.

Seeing as this is a companion piece, it was requested that the background be comparable to Lucy’s portrait in its simplicity. But because of the shape Charley’s tail takes from sitting on a log, the flat block of color didn’t quiet work. Instead, we decided on a middle ground between the original log and the simplicity of the flat color by using simple line work and crooked edges to give the impression of the log without needing to go into detail or more realistic coloring.

Time-Lapse Video: With details so small for this one, I chose not to do a time-lapse video because I really didn’t want a camera basically right on top of the paper impeding my vision as I worked.

Time Spent: 27 hours and 4 minutes

Up Next: Next up is an 8x10” portrait of Gibby the yellow Lab, another companion piece of sorts for the family of Barclay, much like this portrait of Charley is to Lucy.

Until next time!
