Pet Portrait: Cassidy the Yellow Lab

If you’ve looked through my portfolio of pet portraits then you’ve likely noticed that I tend to stick with simple, single color backgrounds because, let’s face it, coming up with dynamic backgrounds just isn’t my strong suit. That said, if the photo reference I’m given comes with one I am happy to draw it in. …But I’d be lying if I said drawing the water Cassidy is playing in was an easy process. Oh boy did that splash give me a lot of trouble! I do think it turned out nicely, though. Hope you all agree!

Fun fact: I’ve also drawn Cassidy’s sister Lucille, who came with her own interesting background of a wicker chair. It was also a time consuming portion of the portrait to add in, though it was far less of a struggle than this lake.

Time-Lapse Videos: This footage was shot initially using the time-lapse feature on an iPhone 7, and unfortunately it looks like I failed miserably at getting things in focus as I went. Maybe I should really consider getting a decent camera if I want to keep making these time-lapse vids… Anyway, the footage was sped up an additional 8x-10x in iMovie.

Time Spent: 90 hours and 56 minutes

Up Next: I have a couple potential commissions lined up, one of which is for an Aussie with heterochromia. Put your guesses in now for what the other breeds might be!

Until next time! Lauren H.
